Elise Ramsbottom: Minnesotan, born and bred. New Yorker by choice.
Since a very young age, books were my heart and soul. My mum loves to tell people how she still has board books with my teeth marks. Then when I reached an age when I could have my own library card, I toted 2-3 bags home every Friday; I wanted to know everything there was to know about everything, and books were my gateway into the world. Today, working in the publishing industry, I get free books every week; they take up more space in my home than I’d like to admit.
It was this love of books that drew me to NYC. After finishing my Bachelor degrees in English and Journalism at Winona State University in Minnesota, I moved here with whatever I could bring in two suitcases and started my Masters degree in Publishing at Pace University. Since starting the program, I worked at Grove Atlantic as their publicity and marketing intern and am now employed at Artisan Books (an imprint under Workman Publishing) as the Editorial Assistant. I also do freelance transcription and editing on the side.
MissRead Editorial is a venture that has been in the back of my mind for a long time. My greatest joy in working in publishing is helping a writer discover the pure strain of genius in their writing and working alongside them to polish and perfect it. This is what I hope to do for you, wherever you are in the process. Maybe you need someone to keep you on track with your writing, maybe you want a last look over your manuscript before you begin sending it to agents, or maybe you need help writing a proposal. Whatever the situation is, I am here to help.
